MSIG

MSIG Smart Management is a technology-based company focused on advance consulting and the development of solutions for management and decision support systems.

As a result of the collaboration between Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO) and the management consulting organization Sinergy (only in Spanish), MSIG has become a spin-off with the purpose of developing innovative solutions for business application, which are drawn from the outcomes of the research lines conducted by the departments of the university.

This collaboration enabled to provide leading edge solutions in different environments such as risk management, business continuity, critical infrastructure protection and cybersecurity.

Advance consulting and development of solutions for management and decision support systems

Ongoing contact with institutional and business environment boosted the extension of the field of application of developments to other areas, where decision-making under conditions of risk and uncertainty is pertinent, as the assessment of models of entrepreneurship, scenarios generation and courses of action emanated from expert systems.

International Partnerships

Cross-Impact Analysis (CIA)
MSIG researchers have worked together since 2005 with Professors Turoff and Hiltz from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, in order to provide a framework for a better emergency planning based on Cross-Impact Analysis method.

Risk and vulnerability analysis of critical infrastructures
MSIG researchers are at present acting as consultant to researchers from the Research Centre for Civil Protection of the prestigious University of Tsinghua, in terms of risk and vulnerability analysis in critical infrastructures

Development of Emergency Response Plans
MSIG professionals have collaborated with researchers from GRECO research group (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) in order to design CAEPlan tool for the development of Emergency Response Plans. Response plans to landslides have been currently applied to the development by the Military Fire Brigades in Brazil.

Failures Analysis Models for Critical Infrastructuress
Profesionales de MSIG participan activamente con el CIEM (Centro Integral de Gestión de Emergencias) de la Universidad noruega de Agder en el desarrollo de modelos de análisis de fallos en infraestructuras críticas.

Planning and Foresight in Emergency Management
MSIG professionals belong to various international technical committees as the international association ISCRAM (Information Systems for Crisis Emergency Response and Management). Dr. Bañuls (Managing Partner of MSIG) is accountable for the area of foresight, planning and risk management in cooperation with Dr. Turofff.

Research Projects

MSIG counts with extensive research experience in crisis management. Since 2005, our researchers remain an international benchmark in generation and analysis of scenarios in the field of emergency management as support to planning, training and risk management.

TIPex

MSIG members are currently involved in a project of the Spanish National Plan for Research and Development, called ‘’TIPex’’ from its Spanish initials which means ‘’Information Technologies for planning and training at emergency situations’’.  TIPex is a project derived from the Spanish National Plan for Research and Development, coordinated between the Spanish Universities Carlos III (UC3M), Politécnica de Valencia (UPV) and Pablo de Olavide (UPO). The purpose of this project is to develop systems intended to collaborative devising of contingency plans, data formats to provide different prospects of the same plan, exportation and sharing of plans, so as to boost evolution and improvement, training of users, as well as further interaction, participation and exchange of knowledge.

CIASS - www.ciass.org

CIASS (Cross-Impact Analysis & Simulation Software) is a powerful tool developed by MSIG aimed at generating and analysing scenarios. CIASS provides support to decision-making under conditions of high uncertainty, such as:

  • Which are the most relevant threats to be considered regarding to our company?
  • How can I increase the protection of my infrastructures?

CIASS tool is based on the principles of quantum mechanics and it has been developed specifically to generate estimations through an interactive system.

CMCI Project

CMCI (Collaborative Modeling of Critical Infrastructure) is an international research project led by Professor Murray Turoff, in which we participate dealing with data analysis and representation. This pioneering research is conducted by thirty international experts and its purpose is to establish the relationship between critical infrastructures and their interdependences. The outcomes of this research are intended to explain how the increase of resilience in a critical infrastructure may affect to the behavior of the other infrastructures.
